For Graciela

Querida Graciela:

I still remember the night your parents called me to tell me the news of your impending arrival. I had just gotten back from a Thanksgiving trip to Honduras. It was late at night and I was tired. Your grandparents and I were at a friend’s house and I had to hide in the bathroom to take your parents’ call.

A happiness filled my heart because I knew how much your parents wanted you. I forgot exactly what I said to them, but it was probably something like “OH MY GOSH, I’M SO, SO EXCITED!!”

And that is exactly how I feel now. I’m excited for you to be a part of my world, a part of this family, and excited to watch you grow into the little person you will become. You have no idea the fun family you have come into. Your parents are special people and will give you a life full of just the perfect doses or joy, love, and nerdiness. Get ready!

I promise to always love and support you as an aunt. I promise to always be interested in your life and to know you…really, really know you.

Welcome to the world precious girl. You are so loved.

Love,

Your Tia Caro
